Tex-Mex Lexicon Initiative
Gauging Industry interest in regional language offerings
What is Tex-Mex?
“Tex-Mex” is typically used to describe a fusion of Mexican and Southern American cuisine. However, it can also be used to describe any type of blend of these two cultures, like a language.
Supporting Tex-Mex
It’s important to recognize it’s daily use, especially in the oil industry in western and southern parts of Texas. An estimated 75% of people in Texas use Tex-Mex*.

The goal of the lexicon project is to eliminate gaps in linguistic understanding and create a form of education that speakers of regional dialects can understand and learn from.
By accommodating regional dialects such as Tex-Mex, companies can rest assured their workers are performing their jobs safely, and with a solid understanding of standard operating practices.

Technology that supports regionalization
PetroEd has developed a multi-language user interface that we call esperant™, an innovative computer based-training (CBT) development, deployment, and integration platform. This platform was created based on our extensive experience in CBT development for the oil and gas industry, and responds to changing technologies and industry demands in multi-cultural settings.
While there is a workload associated with translation and voice-over, we believe that companies will see the value of such a project and readily participate on a country-by-country basis.
About the project
The main objective of the project is to seek out information on what the general public, educators, and people immersed in South Texas have to share about their thoughts regarding Tex-Mex.
